Come and celebrate regime changes and the wholesale slaughter of turkeys by jamming with the St. Paul Conspiracy cell this Thursday! Just bring some drawing utensils, an idea for the jam, and a few bucks to get a tasty beverage — the baristas really do appreciate that.
The jam will start promptly at 6:30 and run until…whenever.
To join us come to:
Cosmic’s Coffee Shoppe
189 Snelling Ave N.

More not than often we head on over to grab a brew at:

In the meantime, if you have any ideas or just want to chat about the upcoming jam, please click here!
I don’t normally post pin-ups I do for others on this site, but I’m really happy with the way this one turned out.
It for my friend Danno Klownoski who makes a minicomic series called Manly Tales of Cowardice. The image is based on an obscure cover from Magnus Robot Fighter 4000 AD.
Sometimes its refreshing to just draw a robot getting punched.
he Minneapolis Cartoonist Conspiracy meets at 6:30 until 10:00 the first Thursday of every month at Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe in Northeast.
Generally, we draw collaborative “jam” comics, socialize and drink caffeinated beverages. Afterwords, we often have uncaffeinated beverages somewhere else. Tonight we will also be collating 24 Hour comics from last month’s Minneapolis 24 Hour Comics event into a nice box set.
The meetings are open to anyone who wants to draw with us, and the results are posted here sooner or later (and sometimes even printed).
Diamond’s Coffee Shoppe
1618 Central Avenue Northeast
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Please spend some money at Diamond’s while you’re there, even if it is just a cuppa coffee… they are excellent hosts, and we wanna stay welcome there.
Big Time Attic hosts our monthly jam meetings at Diamond’s… they will be supplying us with a big old plate of pastries or something. Thanks fellas!
So Obama won! I think this marks the first time a cantidate I voted for won. I’m releived that the Bush administration will finally be over, but I’m also a little ambilovent. I mainly voted for Obama not because I expected him to change things (the President only has so much power, or at least he *should* only have so much power) but because he seemed the least likely to make things worse
Take that with a grain of salt as I can be a real idiot when it comes to politics (not watching television or reading the paper can do that to you)
The Sequential Artists’ Pub Podcast is available for download. This week we talked about fears that come from being a cartoonist.
Huh boy. I just looked at my website this morning and realized it says updated Thursdays and Sundays when it should say Wednesdays and Sundays. I don’t know how something like that can slip by my notice for so long. Anyway, I will fix it when I get home from work tonight.
I was reading an article at Occasional Superheroine about Megan Rose Gedris, the creator of two lesbian webcomics, getting some ugly hate messages on her LiveJournal. You can read the article here. It gave me food for thought as I’m currently doing a story arc about homosexuality.
Over the past month or so, I have been wondering about how “Weekends With Carl” would have been received if it was about two women rather than two men. Have Carl be a sassy black lesbian (name her Carla), and have Ryan be a naive girl from the country (Ryan is already a girl’s name). Part of me wonders if it would be an easier sell. It’s more like, “Ooh, maybe they’ll kiss,” rather than “Aw Gawd, they’re not going to kiss, are they?” And it would give me am excuse to have my Project Wonderful ads feature cute girls (which seem to get better click-throughs)
But then I would have been a target to the crap described in the article above.
One of my fears when starting “Weekends With Carl” was that someone might use it to justify their anger or hatred towards homosexuals. After all, Carl is not a character without flaws. There have been some comments on the blog about how Carl should be punched in the face, but I think that has more to do with the words coming out of the character’s mouth than the fact that he’s gay. Thankfully, I haven’t gotten any comics as gruesome and disturbing as the ones Megan got.
Hopefully I never will.
I was off work yesterday, so I participated in the Art and Story Alive podcast. We talked about many things, including PC Weenies turning 10 years old (which is amazing) and my 24 hour comic. We also discuss topics like social networking and changing your character designs over time. The podcase also features the very talented Kevin Cross and Jerzy Drozd.
